With the release of trixbox Pro v5.2 there are some really significant changes to how some of the features now work. The biggest change is with the users and extensions, which also affects licensing. With version v5.2 extensions and users are now separated and a user can have up to four extensions assigned to him/her. Where licenses where based on extensions before, now they are based on users. If you had to buy extra licenses so some users could have both an office phone and a remote phone, with version 5.2 this would only require a single license.

While trixbox Pro is usually configured with internal interface cards when connecting to phone circuits, there is definitely good reasons to look at external SIP gateways like Patton devices.
The Aastra IP phones are probably the easiest phones available to get working with trixbox Pro, just plug them into your network and that’s about it. trixbox Pro will automatically create a new extension and phone device for you and tell the phone where to get it’s configuration file from. All you need to do is edit the extension with the user’s information and the phone is ready to use. There really is no easier to use phone with trixbox Pro than the Aastra IP phones.
