What is an OBi110? At its most basic level its an analog telephone adapter but that just scratches the surface of what it can do. Any ObiTalk device can directly dial any other device with zero configuration. The OBi110 can also be connected to a PSTN line or SIP trunk for outbound dialing and other ObiTalk devices (OBi110 units, OBiOn app on a PC, iPhone, or Android smartphone) can be given permission to dial out through the unit to the service provider. This easy-to-configure peer-to-peer network can be utilized for friends & family, telecommuters, and even branch office connectivity.

Use your OBi make and receive calls from other OBi endpoints. You can also use its standardized
interfaces for analog telephone and VoIP services to expose a host of convenience enabling and
money saving configurations.

  • Owning the OBi is like having your own phone company.
  • You control the way the OBi connects calls. For example, OBi lets you use your home telephone service to make local, long distance or international calls from the road using your mobile phone or laptop computer.
  • You can direct calls to go in the most cost-effective direction by using OBi endpoints to bridge services. You can ultimately route calls in ways that your mobile or land line service provider cannot or would not do!
  • OBi products are easy to use. They use familiar interfaces – like a telephone keypad or web browser, which helps mask the complexity — and the magic — happening under the covers.

So does it assign you an actual phone number?

  2. Chase,

Out of the box it will assign you a special Obihai number, that you can call other Obihais with for free. If you wanted a *real* phone number, cell phones and home phones could call for example you would have to connect the unit to a VoIP provider. The VoIP Provider would give you the phone number.

  3. I'm more confused then when I first started. I wish people would explain things so someone who is computer dumb can understand it. All I want to know is, can I hook up a regular phone to this and call people. I dont have a land line. I just have a cell phone. I have internet service (WLAN). My cell phone is OK to use out and about for emergency's, but it sucks to use at home, as its not very clear. I have a phone from a long time ago when I had a phone line in another home, and I just want to hook it up to talk to people. Woould this work?

No. If these other people do not have an Obihai you will not be able to call them.
