Mounting
The VIP-804 is designed for wall, table or rack mounting.
Table: Provided with the VIP-804 are four rubber stick on feet. Peel these feet off their carrier backing and place at the four corners of the bottom of the unit.
Wall: Using the template and instructions provided, secure the VIP-804 to the wall.
Rack: Following the assembly drawing, attach the two mounting ears to the VIP-804 unit. Using rack screws, mount the VIP-804 in an available 1U rack slot.
Power Connections
The preferred method of powering a VIP-804 is via a power over Ethernet switch meeting the 804.3af specification. If the rear panel barrel connector is used for power, the preferred power supply is a Valcom VIP-324. Make all required signal connections before applying power to the unit. If powering via 804.3af, make sure all signal connections via the back panel are made then connect the VIP-804 to the Ethernet switch.
If power is supplied via the barrel connector, make sure all signal connections are secure. Attach the unit to the network via the front panel RJ-45 Ethernet connector. Apply power by plugging the power supply into the VIP-804 via the barrel connector on the rear of the VIP-804.
Network Connection
The VIP-804 has one CAT-5 RJ-45 network connector on the front panel. Use one of the supplied CAT-5 patch cables to connect the VIP-804 to an Ethernet switch. If the Ethernet switch is 804.3af compliant the VIP-804 will draw power from it.
Signal Connections
The VIP-804 has 3 signal connectors on the rear panel.
- 1 RCA jack for AUX audio input
- 2 RJ-45 connectors for audio and relay connections for each networked channel
Networked Channels: Access to the networked audio is via two rear panel RJ-45 connectors. These connectors may be wired using standard RJ-45 terminations. Provided with the VIP-804 are two 3 foot RJ-45 patch cables and two RJ-45 “Biscuit Block” style connectors. You may easily connect to the signals by plugging one end of a patch cable to the VIP-804 and the other in to a “Biscuit Block” connector. Access to the signals is via screw terminal under the block cover. Signals are present on pairs of pins.
Pins - Wire Color - Signal
1,2 - Blue & Orange - Audio Input
7,8 - Brown & Grey - Audio Output
3,6 - Black & Yellow - Contact Closure Input
4,5 - Red & Green - N.O. Relay Closure Output
Status Indicator Lights:
The VIP-804 has 3 status indication lights on the front panel:
STATUS: Flashes to indicate power.
LINK: Indicates 100 Mbit Ethernet connection when illuminates. No activity indicates 10 Mbit connection.
ACT: Indicator flashes to indicate network activity.
