badge intercom At a Glance: CyberData VoIP Intercom and Paging Systems

Recently we have been testing some Cyberdata VoIP Intercoms in our office. Prior to this, I had very little experience with any of Cyber Data Products, or Intercoms in general. But after setting up several of these products, I was amazed at the ease of use, quality of audio and amount of functionality these units provide!

We had a reseller looking to add an intercom at the front, back and side doors to their building, and wanted to know how a Cyberdata Voip Intercom would tie into their existing Asterisk PBX. So we set out to set up several intercoms on various systems around our lab. I went into this expecting a hassle of getting these units set up correctly, but boy, was I wrong! Right out of the box I was impressed by the quality of these units. Each intercom comes in a very sturdy and solid metal casing, which looks like it can stand up against even the harshest of weather conditions. At first glance, the units look incredibly simple! With a few turns of a screw driver, I was able to open the casing and plug right into my network. With a simple check of my DHCP logs, I had my unit’s DCHP IP Address, and within 30 seconds I was able to access the Cyberdata Web GUI.

I was not sure exactly how these units would tie into a VoIP setup, but as it turns out, all that is needed is to register these units as an extension. It is as Simple as that! I assigned the unit to automatically dial into my “receptionist” phone, and I was done. With a simple press of the single button on the intercom, my “receptionist” phone rang, and I was able to speak back and forth with very high audio quality. This entire process took me less than ten minutes!

So you are probably asking yourself, why is this important to me? Well for those of us whose have multiple access points into company workspaces, this allows for greater security for your premises! I have come to see that most of the customers who buy these units are in their own building, or at least have no form of lobby or security staff. For an office building with a single entry point and a security guard, this might not be a huge asset, as they have existing measures. But for anyone without that luxury, these units can allow you to prevent access to your facilities, and have greater access control. These systems can be set to alarm the staff whenever a door is opened, or if used in conjunction with a door strike, completely shut out access. In this case, the doors will not unlock without a staff member on the interior end of this intercom “Buzzing” someone in. Give your employees the peace of mind they deserve with these increased security measures.

CyberData has added quite a few new features, such as a Tamper Sensor, an open Door Sensor, Auto Answer and Relay controls. These features are far to robust to cover in a single update! CyberData’s products break the intercom mold, and are designed to be “Intelligent units”, capable of much more than just simple one way calls.
